My Husband

I wrote this for my Husband for Father's Day 2010. We had just lost our little girl a mere 3 days before. I consider it one of the best poems I have written personally because I put so much of my heart into it. He read it that morning, shed a few tears and hasn't read it since. I know he appreciated it though. I just know him that well.

My husband is a daddy
But not everyone can see
He's the most special kind of daddy
But everyone's too focused on me.
He's daddy to an angel,
The hardest kind of daddy to be,
Because at the end of the day
His arms are empty just like me.
He goes through his routines
He holds his head up high
But he knows our baby girl is looking down from the sky
He tries to hold it in
He holds me when I cry
He watches as another day without her silently goes by
My husband was robbed
Of so many things
On the hot summer day
When our precious angel grew wings
He'll never get to teach her sports
He'll never get to see her smile
He'll never get the chance
To walk his oldest daughter down the isle.
My husband hurts just as much as I do.
Some tend to forget, he lost his daughter too.
My husband is a daddy
But not everyone can see
He's the most special kind of daddy
The hardest kind to be.
